It’s a well deserved tribute – and Culturettes will love it. At 88, sculptor Mario Cravo Jr. is getting a book and a documentary about his life and his works, both called "Exu Illuminado." The title comes from a name given to the artist by Jorge Amado: Smith of Exu, the messenger that works with iron, bronze and other materials, melting them, turning them into art and putting them in motion again.
* The biography is signed by historian José Valladares – with pictures by Mario Cravo Neto, son of the sculptor – and the film is directed by André Luiz Oliveira. In addition to quotes from renowned artists of Brazilian culture, family members, and people who are part of the project, the works present a timeline of the artist. A large collection of photos, engravings, sketches and paintings are displayed throughout the 479 pages of the book and documentary.
