Widow of writer Guimarães Rosa, Mrs. Aracy de Carvalho Guimarães Rosa was a woman ahead of her time. He was married for only five years, had a son, broke things up her and moved with her son to Europe. All of that before 1940. But this was only the beginning of the story that Mônica Raísa Schpun tells in the book “Justa”, launched on Monday at the Livraria Cultura of Conjunto Nacional.

* The book talks about the years that Mrs. Aracy worked at the Brazilian Embassy in Hamburg, from 1936 to 1940, where she was responsible for granting visas to Brazil. Ara, as the writer used to call her, facilitated visas for many German Jews, evading the Nazi regime and the rules of the Getúlio Vargas government. As a result, she ended up saving the lives of hundreds of Jews, including Mrs. Margarida – her great companion who came to Brazil with her husband, and ended up becoming part of the family. Mrs. Margarida also died in 2011, two days after Mrs. Aracy. It’s a beautiful story to read.
