When Sao Paulo born Monique Maion starts talking about music, there’s no stopping her. And it’s to be expected: the singer, who began performing – for fun, as she says – at age 15 in England, is now booming here.
* And when we hear the song "I Killed a Man", you can identify the various influences of which she is so fond of talking. "I’ve always listened to jazz, blues, Tom Waits, Janis Joplin and music of the 1910s and 1920s. This reflects directly in my compositions," said Monique. And how does she classify herself? "I’m just a singer, I don’t like labels," she said.
* And if the new breed of MPB has an unattached, unpretentious style, this does not happen with Monique. She climbs high heels, and her wardrobe is another chapter: "My dream was to perform in a circus, but as I’m afraid of heights, it didn’t happen. So now I bring this circus world in my presentations, but with a freaky show feel, you know. " Are you curious? So check out the video!
