On Monday, on a secluded beach near Paraty, the shootings of the series “Vermelho Brazil” ("Red Brazil") began. An adaptation of the bestselling "Rouge Bresil" by French writer Jean-Christophe Rufin, it’s a Brazilian, Canadian and French co-production which tells the tragic story of the French who tried to conquer the Guanabara Bay in the 16th century.
* The cast includes stars, such as Stellan Skarsgard, known for his Lars von Trier films, and Joaquim de Almeida, who was in Steven Soderbergh’s "Guerrilla." They arrived in Rio ten days ago and underwent makeup and costume tests, the latter came from Spain.
* The show will be directed by Canadian Sylvain Archambault and is one of the largest international TV co-productions ever done in the country, estimated at nearly R$ 20 million. In France, the series will feature two episodes of 90 minutes. In Brazil, the project should get a miniseries format, with five episodes, plus a version for the big screen.
